Lanarkshire schools 6k challenge

A group of staff and pupils will once again represent the school at the annual St Andrew’s Hospice Lanarkshire Schools 6K Challenge held at Strathclyde Park on Sunday, September 17.

We are looking for our young people from fourth year to sixth year to take part in supporting this very worthy cause of raising funds for the Hospice. If anyone is interested please see Mr Choi who will register you for the event. Duke of Edinburgh Silver Expedition

This week 13 Taylor High students from sixth year will experience their Practice Expedition in preparation for their Silver Expedition as part of the Duke of Edinburgh Award. The Silver Expedition involves a three- day hike and two nights camping, walking miles all while carrying their own equipment. In order to complete this section the students have to demonstrate a capability in map reading, using a compass, cooking their own meals and putting up their own tents. The students are excited at the prospect of camping overnight with only the weather possibly putting a dampener on things. Thanks to Ian MacFarlane our Home School Partnership Officer for supporting and preparing our young people for this challenge! Continuity programme

The first group of primary seven pupils, who attend a number of Taylor’s associated and non- associated primary schools, are currently having the opportunity to visit the school and as part of the first block of the Continuity Programme. In the coming weeks pupils will have the opportunity to study various subjects in preparation for starting High School in August 2018. Pupils from Christ the King, St. Mary’s and St Patrick’s Primary Schools in addition to pupils from New Stevenson Primary, Newarthill Primary and Cathedral Primary, are attending until the October Break. A second group of pupils follow this group from St Teresa’s and Our Lady and St. Francis Primary Schools who will enjoy this opportunity from October through to Christmas. Thanks once again to Mr Gerry McQuaid (Acting Depute) for his co- ordination of this programme and to departmental staff who are looking forward to working with the young people over the coming months. Beginners running club A new running club is starting in Taylor High and will take place on a Monday and a Wednesday after school. It is perfect for pupils who want to get fit and who want to exercise in a social and supportive environment. You don’t have to be Usain Bolt and nobody is “too slow”. It is designed for pupils from first year all the way through to sixth Extra-curricular activities

Over the next few weeks a wide range of extracurricular activities will commence giving young people the opportunity to take part in both sporting and non-sporting activities. All students are encouraged to participate in activities in order to get the most from their education during the year ahead!
