Motherwell goalkeeper Trevor Carson believes the 12th man has been key to the Steelmen’s early season success.

After registering three wins in a row for the first time since April last year by seeing off Kilmarnock 2-0 on Saturday, the Well keeper was in high spirits and praised the level of support the team have received from the fans.

With three Fir Park games in a row, the home crowd has continued to increase and the former Hartlepool stopper is keen to give supporters something to shout about.

However, he knows the importance of picking up points on the road and is targeting all three against Hibs this Saturday.

Carson said: “It keeps the momentum going and there’s a real good feel about the place.

“First half, we were frustrated because it wasn’t quite there but the fans didn’t turn on us and they stuck with us.

“Second half they drove us on and that’s our responsibility to keep that going and we’ve got to go to places like Hibs next week and believe.

“We’ve got confidence, a good squad and great backing so we’ll be going there expecting a result.

“In past times, Motherwell might have went to big games and went there thinking: ‘If we get a draw, great’. But we’re going there to win the game.

“If we weren’t doing so well, then the fans can

quickly turn but you just sense among them that there’s a feelgood factor.

“It’s been a blessing for us to be at home and get positive results and positive performances because we’ve got the fans on our side early doors.

“But we need to keep this going, football is about winning games and it brings in a lot of confidence.

“We’re so high on confidence and we’re raring to go again next week.”

Carson believes the positive changes at the club are all down to Motherwell manager Stephen Robinson.

The Northern Irish counterparts have got on well since Carson signed in the summer and the keeper believes training has played a massive part.

He said:“The gaffer drives us on and doesn’t settle for anything but the best and from the first day he’s said we’ll be the best at doing the free things.

“We’ll run further, we’ll be stronger and fitter — the stuff money can’t buy.

“I think you see that every week and the gaffer has training bang-on every day.

“We’re taking it into Saturdays, which is brilliant.

“The manager reminded us what we were good at during half-time last Saturday and it helped us go on and dominate the game.”
