Nightmare home set to be fenced off

-

North Lanarkshire Council will fence off a Craigneuk “home from hell”.

The Flaxmill Avenue property has caused headaches for neighbours who have had to put up with drunken louts congregating, smashing windows and dumping rubbish.

The house has been empty for nine years and is now being repossessed.

However, the council is looking to buy over the house and is erecting a fence behind the property in a bid to curb any more trouble.

Nor th Lanarks h i re Council’s housing service manager, Laura O’Neill, said: “A calling-up notice has been served on the landlord, and we have written to the mortgage company about the council buying the property.

“Letters have also been emailed to the owner but it’s been very frustrating.

“A six- foot fence has already been erected because of people using as a walkthrough but there is no fencing at the back and we are going to put fencing up to the rear.”

Earlier this year, the Wishaw Press reported how neighbour Tina Appleton was fed up with the abandoned property.

She said: “To say we’ve had a few problems would be an understatement. It has been hell for everyone and when we moved in a year ago we didn’t know the area too well but all of our neighbours were great.

“Over time, the house next door has became a bigger problem and I’d like to see it knocked down.”
