A Wishaw man found guilty of an unprovoked attack on his former friend has been spared jail.
Alan Slavin stood trial earlier this year accused of assaulting Martin McCafferty at a house in Fruin Drive in Cambusnethan on April 30.
The 40- year- old, of Lockhart Place, was found guilty of attacking Mr McCafferty by punching him on the head which caused him to fall to the ground
Dur ing the att a c k , which took place on the same night as both men were watching the Anthony Joshua v Wladimir Klitschko heavyweight championship title fight at Wembley Stadium, Slavin repeatedly punched and kicked Mr McCafferty on the head while he was on the ground during the vicious assault.
A charge that Slavin permanently disfigured Mr McCafferty was dropped during the trial.
At Hamilton Sheriff Court last week, Sheriff Alasdair MacFadyen decided against sending Slavin to prison.
However, Slavin was ordered to pay £ 500 compensation to his victim.
He was also fined £500. Police have released an image of a man they wish to speak to after a woman was subjected to a public indecency offence in Wishaw.
The incident happened on Donnelly Way, near to Etna Industrial Estate, at around 3pm on Monday, November 7, last year.
Officers are keen to speak to the man in the image as they believe that he could assist them with their enquiries.
He is described as 20 to 30 years of age, dressed in work clothing, wearing a blue fleece, along with combat style work trousers, which were grey and black in colour.
The man has a large distinctive tattoo to the right hand side of his neck.
Anyone who is able to identify him should contact Motherwell Police Office on 01698 483054 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
