Girls looking to the future

- Future Girls Asset Conference

This is an event designed to build the confidence of, and empower, young women to involve themselves in the financial industry.

The conference, which a selected few enthusiastic S5 girls attended, took place in Edinburgh on September 22.

One student who was present at the event, Wiktoria Orlicka, really enjoyed the experience and said: “The First Minister wanted to put the word out there to girls that they can do whatever they want and that the financial industry is not just a place for men.”

An inspiring speech was delivered by a female financial services executive who manages millions of pounds in funds every day.

Even though she is immersed in the world of financial services, which can be a high pressure environment, she leaves work at 5pm every day and loves watching Peppa Pig videos with her children.

Mrs Keeney, depute headteacher, said: “It was a great experience for our girls to hear from such a positive role model. Women who work in finance don’t need to be like something from the ‘Wolf of Wall Street’.

“It was great to hear such a positive affirmation about high- flying career paths for women that also acknowledges the importance of a good work-life balance”.

Fourth year geography adventure

A group of adventurous S4 pupils went on an exciting trip to Loch Lomond to learn all about glaciation and geology as part of their geography classes.

The event took place in order to allow the pupils the chance to achieve the John Muir Award. Ardroy Outdoor Education Centre was the venue for the event, taking pupils up hills and showing them caves.

The trip was organised by Miss Kennedy of the geography department and she aimed to show the pupils the effects of glaciation and erosion in the landscape of Scotland.

The fourth year students who ventured up to the Loch Lomond National Park really enjoyed studying in this rugged and beautiful environment and were full of praise for the event and the Ardroy centre who hosted them.

Fourth year student, Jacob Hose said: “Instructor Keith O’Donnell took us up a hill and through some caves.

“I really liked working with the centre staff and want to try and arrange my work experience there.”
