Gowkthrapp­le community cafe is open for business as usual on Thursdays, between 11.30am and 1.30pm in Gowkthrapp­le community centre. The cafe serves tasty and affordable snack lunches and a place to enjoy a chat. There is also a take away menu available. Club Sun fun day meets next Sunday, October 29, in Gowkthrapp­le community centre, between 1pm and 2pm. All primary school aged children will be made most welcome. Newmains

Struthers Parish Church outreach meetings are held in the old Gospel Hall, Bonkle Road on Wednesdays at 7.30pm. Newmains Factor The first heat of The Newmains Factor took place on Saturday, September 30, in Robin’s Bar with seven singers taking to the stage. Hazel O’Rourke and Ryan Gray got through to the final with the wildcard pick being Jenna Smith. Further heats are set to be held October 28 and December 2 with the final taking place on December 23. The winner of the talent contest takes home £500 with the runner-up receiving £100. However, the big winners will be Newmains Gala Committee and Newmains Hammers 2006’s who will receive an equal share of the proceeds. Anyone wishing to enter The Newmains Factor can call Mary Gilfillan on 07507 774911 or Brian at Robin’s Bar on 01698 298775. Singers will also be given a sponsor sheet in an attempt to raise funds for both groups. Church A Macmillan Cancer Support coffee morning, held in Coltness Memorial Church, raised a whopping £760. Thanks to everyone who attended for their donations.
