Ross tries new pizza that’s‘hotter than hell’
A Craigneuk takeaway has thrown down the gauntlet to punters wishing to take on an eating challenge which is hotter than hell.
The team from Mr Chef, based in Craigneuk Street, have created the Reaper Pizza, which is described as the world’s hottest pizza.
Owner Wasim Arshad said: “The pizza base is layered with genuinely the hottest sauce available to mankind.
“We are using Trinidad morugu scorpion chillies, ghost chillies and several other hot chillies and spices!
“We then add chicken tikka, green chillies, chilli flakes and then smother it with mozzarella cheese.
“This pizza sauce caused our chefs to cry while making it due to the intensity of the heat!
“It all started when one customer asked us for something spicy to blow away his hangover – he wasn’t disappointed!”
Never one to back down from a challenge (and because the editor told me to go) I was sent to try Mr Chef’s scorching sensation.
Reading online that the Trinidad morugu measured two million on the Scoville scale was possibly the worst thing I could have done.
To put that into some kind of context, your average jalapeno rates between 2,500 and 5,000.
A ghost chillie also measures over a million on the Scoville scale.
So as I walked into the store to say I was apprehensive would be an understatement.
Having a quick try of just the sauce put my mouth on fire.
The pizza, prepared by Samantha Speedie, looked great as it went into the oven.
But as it came out you could see the searing heat wafting through the air.
To my credit I managed the first slice without too much trouble but my mouth caught fire by the second and I was done.
Wasim, who saw Mr Chef crowned Scottish Takeaway of the Year in 2017, is hoping a team of foodies will take down the pizza – and raise cash for charity in the process.
He added: “Last year we had a few people trying it and we paid money for every slice they ate.
“We donated around £120 to the Well Foundation.
“However, this time around we want to get as many people as possible come along.
“We are hoping to reach more than double which we donated last year.”
