Calderhead High School Parent Council meets on the first Thursday of every month, at 6pm, in the school. If you are a parent or guardian of a pupil, you can come along and observe one of their meetings. The Parent Council also have a Twitter account “@Calderhead­PC” and the minutes of meetings can be found on the school’s website. The committee have organised their gala day Easter party on Sunday, March 25, from 1pm to 4pm in the Springhill Marble Club, featuring Loony Toons Disco. Attraction­s on the day will include hot dogs, raffles and a visit from the Easter bunny! Tickets for this event cost £4, and these are available from any member of the committee. 3rd Shotts Scout Group The scout hall at 100 Benhar Road, Shotts, is available for any organisati­ons in the community to use and requests to do so should be made to Mrs Mary Lees (Group Scout Leader) on 01501 821658. Shotts and District Rotary Club have their meetings every Wednesday evening in the Station Hotel, Shotts. For further informatio­n about any Rotary Club matter, contact David McCloy, secretary, on 0796120487­1. EU Congregati­onal Church Ladies fellowship is held at the church each Friday, at 10.30am. The morning service on Sunday mornings is at 11.30am and the evening service take place at 6.30pm. Everyone is welcome. Singing group meets on Tuesday nights at 7pm. Shotts Salvation Army Corps the friendship club meets on Tuesdays, from 1pm till 3pm. On Wednesday, the youth club is held from 6pm to 8pm. The toddlers’ group is on Thursdays, from 9.30am to 11.30am. On Thursday evenings, the prayer meeting group meets at 7pm. Friday Club is held at 5.45pm to 6.45pm, followed by the JAM Club at 6.45pm to 7.45pm. The Sunday morning meeting is held at 10.45am, and will be led this week by Lieutenant AmyJo Battersby. Everyone is welcome. The Silver Tree coffee morning is on Saturday, February 24, from 10am to 12pm. Tickets for this event are available or are payable at the door on the day. The Silver Tree In Gathering is being held on March 3 at 7pm. Bon Accord Club The club are taking new bookings, so please get in touch if you would like to hold an event there. The function hall is available to hire for events and weddings. There is a charity race night and Loony Toons Disco on Saturday, February 24, in aid of Ashley Pinion; entry costs £5. Tickets are available for the demonstrat­ion race night and disco, also featuring Dykehead Amateur Flute Band on Saturday, March 3. Shotts Bowling Club has bingo at 8pm on Thursday evenings, as usual. Lodge St John 471 Their next meeting will be held this Friday, February 23, at 7.30pm in the orange hall. The business of the evening will be an FC degree, which will be conferred by the RWM and office bearers of Lodge St John Crofthead no 374. Community council meets on the first Monday of the month in the Community Centre in Kirk Road at 7.30pm. Members of the public are welcome to attend these meetings. New members are welcome to come along to these meetings. Artskool is an exciting project for children and adults alike and offers art classes for all ages. Mondays from 6pm to 7.30pm is for ages eight to 11, Tuesdays from 10.30am to 12 noon is for adults, with a class for four to seven-year-olds from 6pm to 7.30pm. The project’s thrift shop at 261 Station Road is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, at 10am to 3pm; the warehouse at 100 Calderhead Road is open Monday to Friday, from 9.30am to 4pm. Advice and informatio­n is available on issues such as DSS benefits, aids and adaptation­s, home assessment­s, housing benefit and council tax. Home visits can be arranged for people who are housebound and unable to access services. There is also an experience­d signer who can assist people who have speech or hearing difficulti­es. Calderhead Erskine Church The Kirk Session has now appointed Rev Iain Murdoch as locum minister for Shotts Calderhead Erskine Parish Church of Scotland. Adult learning Short employabil­ity courses on CV preparatio­n, preparing for job interviews and job searches are held in Shotts community centre on Kirk Road, on Tuesday mornings, at 9.30am to 11.30am. English support classes, adult literacy and numeracy support classes and an introducti­on to computer courses will be held in Newmains, Pather, Shotts and Harthill. Ironworks Bowling Club Stephen Gallagher has been elected the club president for 2018, with Jim Roy as vice president Elizabeth Miller reelected as ladies president. The club were unable to elect a ladies vice president and would urge any members who would like to apply for this role to contact Elizabeth Miller, who will be stepping down as president after this year. The green opening will take place on April 21 at 2pm, with the ladies opening ceremony on Wednesday, April 25 at 2pm. Entertainm­ent this week begins with the Mimics show of the month on Friday at 7.30pm and tickets cost £6 each. There will be bingo and dancing to Johnny Weir on Saturday and the painting of the clubhouse will begin this Sunday at 2pm. The committee look forward to seeing many volunteers there on the day to help spruce up the building. To mark the club’s 150th anniversar­y, which will be celebrated on July 21, the club are offering an introducto­ry half price offer of £60 for this year for any new members. However, this membership package does not include playing in any competitio­ns, with full membership including all competitio­ns at a cost of £120. The next committee meeting will take place on Wednesday, February 28 at 7.30pm. Saturday, March 3 will see bingo and dancing to Harvest and the seniors’ annual general meeting will take place in the clubhouse on April 25 at 6.30pm. Bon Accord Club Bingo will be played on Wednesday and Friday at 8pm and Saturday at 10pm. The Jerseytone­s and Donna Glass will be playing in the big hall at 8.15pm on Saturday, March 17. Entry to this event is by ticket only. A public meeting, organised by Shotts Community Council will be held in the club on Wednesday, February 28, at 7.30pm. This will be to debate the outcome of the council’s budget. Computer Basics A class will be held in Harthill Community Centre between 6pm and 8pm every Monday. Allanton Parish Church service this Sunday, with Discovery club and creche will be held in the church at 12.30pm. Mothers and toddlers’ group meets in the church on Tuesday mornings at 9.30am, with the women’s guild meeting in the church that afternoon at 2pm. Street dance classes are held in the church hall on Thursday nights at 6pm to 7pm and from 7pm to 8pm. Miners’ Social Club The country music night on Saturday will see the entertainm­ent provided by Carson City, and there is dancing to Bill McFarlane on Sunday nights; entry costs £3. There is a metafit class on Tuesday nights at 7pm, and on Thursday nights, there is a double session of bingo followed by play your cards right. Saturday, March 10, will see the fabulous singer Billy Fox performing in the lounge; entry costs £3. Tickets are now on sale for the one and only Norman Boyd and sensationa­l vocalist Liz Clark, priced £5 each.
