Wax lyrical at poetry event in Summerlee

-

Summerlee in North Lanarkshire is a hive of activity all year round.

And in March it will host its first poet’s corner event where writers will have the chance to have their work published.

They could also have their work published in the Airdrie and Coatbridge Advertiser.

Led by Airdrie poets Iain Johnston and Janette Horn, it will see participants sharing their work in a series of readings.

And those who wish to can also submit their poems for publication.

The event takes place at the Coatbridge attraction on Saturday, March 24, from 1pm to 3pm, and organisers are hoping that as many writers and museum visitors as possible will take part.

Janette said: “It’s taking place in an open space at Summerlee – although in a quieter corner away from the machines – as we didn’t want to be shut away in a room.

“But we want people to see and hear poetry.

“Our aim is for everyone to be aware of what’s happening, for them to share work or just come along to listen.”

Airdrie is also hosting a charity fundraiser that is suitable for the daredevils among you who enjoy a challenge and would like to help raise cash for a great cause.

Maggie’s Glasswalk will see people use the power of positive thinking to walk barefoot across 15 feet of broken glass for the Maggie’s Lanarkshire charity.
