MSP puts focus on Wishaw meeting
AN MSP who is more used to being on the other side of the camera had the tables turned on him after a recent visit to Alba Photographic Society in Wishaw.
Graham Simpson was visiting the club during its weekly meeting at Netherton Community Centre after they recently secured lottery funding.
The Big Lottery Fund Scotland award boosted the club funds to the tune of £2,000.
This has allowed Alba to buy some new equipment including a state- of- theart digital camera, which will help club beginners get snapping away in no time.
During the visit, members took the opportunity to show Graham the tricks of the trade from the other side of the lens and encourage him to have a go.
Mr Simpson said: “I was delighted to accept an invite from Alba Photographic Society after its recent lottery funding success.
“I have had my picture taken plenty of times in my job, so it was interesting to see it all from the other side of the view-finder and pick up some tips from the members on what makes the perfect shot.”
Team members from Mecca Bingo based in Wishaw are celebrating after reaching an incredible fundraising milestone of £1.8 million for the Carers Trust.
The partnership between Carers Trust and the Rank Group, which owns Mecca and Grosvenor Casinos, first began in February 2014.
Since then, its employees from Mecca Bingo in Wishaw have worked hard to raise as much money as possible by undertaking various charity initiatives and fundraising activities in the local area.
Thanks to the relentless dedication of the teams and fantastic support from their customers in Wishaw, Rank Group has achieved this remarkable milestone and hopes to pass the £2 million mark in 2018.
Billy MacLeod, general manager at Mecca Wishaw, said: “We’re incredibly proud of the efforts of all or our team members and most importantly, our customers and everyone in Wishaw who has dug deep into their pockets to help us to support such a worthwhile charity.
“The sad reality is that three in five people will become carers in the UK at some point in their lives and with seven million carers in the UK already, it’s crucial that there is funding available to provide the important support they need.
“We’re delighted to know that we have contributed in some way to the invaluable help the charity offers, and will continue our fundraising endeavours to ensure Carers Trust can carry on assisting the amazing people who desperately need their support.”
Carers Trust chief executive Giles Meyer added: “We are overwhelmed by the fundraising efforts of Grosvenor Casinos and Mecca Bingo in Wishaw.
“They have gone above and beyond once again and we’re delighted to continue our partnership into 2018.
“The reality is that three in five of us will become carers at some point in our lives, and with seven million carers in the UK already, staff’s fundraising plays a crucial part in providing the support carers desperately need.”
