Following fashion passion

- St Aidan’s High

Forty presentation

Students from across the year groups met with Harry Miller – founder of local company Forty Clothing – and his wife Kelly.

The young people enjoyed a day of presentations and activities that focused on turning their dreams into reality.

Student journalists from sixth year also attended the event. They interviewed the presenters and participants to find out about the ideas behind the day.

Harry Miller told pupils: “We really want everybody to feel part of what we do, so what I think is really important is that we have been invited here today to tell the story of basically being able to follow your dreams.

“You don’t have to be academic, our message is to follow your passion in life, no matter who, what, why, where and when.”

He added: “I am not good with letters and numbers, I’m a creative guy and it really is about spreading that message of following your passion.”

The students also asked what he thought the pupils would take from his talk. He said: “Life is short and you don’t get first prize for anything in life. So if anyone today can be inspired to follow their dreams that’s the main goal.

“We want the kids to work hard and achieve their goals – if they don’t like something they can change it.”

Harry added: “The most important thing you can do in life is to be happy. If anyone can take this from us today that would be just amazing.” This is just the start of the relationship between Saint Aidan’s and Forty and the students who attended the day were buzzing with ideas and energy and look forward to making their dreams their reality.

Reading Aloud is allowed

Sixth year students visited St Aidan’s Primary to help out with the Reading Allowed project.

They accompanied Miss McGough, the school librarian, and an eager band of first and second year drama students.

The aim of the visit was to read to primary two and three students. The young performers had honed their presentation and performance skills in drama class with the help of Miss McGough and they delivered some funfilled and dramatic performances of classic children’s stories.

The primary students clearly had a great time and the sixth year students found them to be some of their most willing interviewees of the year.

When asked about her favourite story one primary student replied: “The first book about the bunny was funny. I also like the fox story because the fox put a bucket on a chicken’s head.”
