Calderhead High School parent council meet on the first Thursday of every month at 6pm in the school. If you are a parent or guardian of a pupil, you can come along and observe one of their meetings. Shotts and District Rotary Club have their regular meetings every Wednesday evening in the Station Hotel, Shotts. EU Congregati­onal Church is open for prayer and reflection today from 11am with a short service at 11.30am until 12pm, followed by soup, tea and a chat in the large church hall. The Maundy Thursday and communion service is being held in the church tomorrow at 7pm. On Good Friday, March 30, the service is at 7pm. On Sunday, the morning service is at 11.30am and the singing group meets on Tuesdays at 7pm. Salvation Army Corps The friendship club meets on Tuesdays, at 1pm to 3pm. The youth club is off this week and instead, there will be a Passover meal with Dr Ziggy taking place tonight. The toddlers’ group and Friday and Jam clubs are now on holiday for Easter. On Friday morning, the Good Friday service at 10.45am is being led by Lieutenant Amy-Jo Battersby. The church will be open until the afternoon that day with prayer stations featured around the hall for anyone who would like drop in. The Sunday morning meeting is at 10.45am, and is also being led by Lieutenant Amy-Jo Battersby. Please note that tickets are now sold out for the LOL 9 and LOL 91’s cabaret show and dance with Feeva this Saturday. The It’s a Knockout charity night fundraisin­g dance, in aid of St Andrew’s Hospice, takes place next week, April 7; tickets are on sale at £5 each. Tickets are also on sale for the Apprentice Boys of Derry fundraiser with the Prince of Wales Accordion Band and Carol Paris on Saturday, April 28. Ironworks Bowling Club celebrates it’s 150th anniversar­y this year. The first event will be a sportsmen’s brunch on Sunday, April 29 with guest speakers, Eric Davidson and Jimmy Stirling. A new deal of £60 is available for anyone interested in learning bowling. Members are reminded that competitio­n sheets must be in by April 20, otherwise they will not be eligible to play. The seniors’ section’s AGM will take place on Tuesday, April 3 at 7.30pm. The club are hosting an open day on Saturday, April 21, and the ladies open day is on Wednesday, April 25 at 2pm. Upcoming attraction­s include: May 12, Vicky Gold; July 21 and September 8, Gee Jay Wilson; August 11 and September 13, Scott Lee. Community council meets on the first Monday of the month in the Community Centre in Kirk Road at 7.30pm. Members of the public are welcome to attend these meetings. Allanton Parish Church service, Discovery club and creche is at 12.30pm in the church this Sunday. Youth group meets in the senior citizens centre on Fridays from 7pm to 9pm. All other groups are now off until after the Easter holidays. Miners’ Social Club The country music night on Saturday will see entertainm­ent provided by a guest artist; entry £3. Sunday sees dancing to Bill McFarlane on Sunday nights; the cost of entry is £2.
