Unpaid work after attack on worker
A man has been ordered to carry out unpaid work after an incident at a Motherwell town centre store.
Peter Hendry stood in the dock at Hamilton Sheriff Court last week to be sentenced for the unsavoury incident at Poundworld in Brandon Parade South on March 9 last year.
Hendry, of Coursington Tower, was convicted of assaulting a Poundworld employee by trying to strike him on the body with a bottle and struggling with him.
He also admitted behaving in an aggressive manner as well as shouting and making abusive remarks.
However, 43-year-old Hendry was acquitted of stealing food from the store and of possessing an open bottle of booze.
Sentencing Hendry, Sheriff Linda Nicolson ordered him to carry out 90 hours of unpaid work.
The work must be carried out within the next five months.
Hendry was also handed a one-year community payback order with a supervision requirement for the next 12 months.
