Screening session

-

With some breast screening sessions being cancelled in March during the adverse weather conditions, women from Newmains, Wishaw and Motherwell are being asked to attend the Breast Screening Unit in Lanark.

Any woman who missed their screening session can email GG-UHB. wosbs@nhs.net or call 0141 800 8800.

Dr Tasmin Sommerfield, NHS Lanarkshire Consultant in Public Health Medicine, is hopeful that women will take the opportunity to be screened.

She said: “Unfortunately, due to the adverse weather in March, the West of Scotland Breast Screening service had to cancel some of their planned screening sessions.

“As a result some women have had their breast screening appointment rearranged for the mobile Breast Screening Unit in Lanark.

“If this is not suitable, please let the West of Scotland Breast Screening Service know. They will be able to give you an appointment within the centre in Nelson Mandela Place in Glasgow city centre if this better for travel.”

The winter weather caused havoc across Scotland in early March.

However, Dr Sommerf i e l d apologised to women who are unable to travel to Lanark for their screening.

She added: “On behalf of the West of Scotland Breast Screening Service, I would like to apologise for any inconvenience the change in location may cause.

“It is important that all women make time for breast screening, as screening helps by finding breast cancers at an early stage when they are too small to see or feel.”
