Drunk dad shouted and put pizza through cat flap
A Motherwell man caused carnage at the family home while on a two-day drinking binge.
Kevin Hastings, shouted at his partner and son and drunkenly pushed a pizza through their cat flap at Mount Oliphant Crescent in Ayr.
Ayr Sheriff Court heard the 49- year- old left the family home a number of times over a two-day period last month.
Hastings, of Hatton Court, Motherwell, told his eight- yearold son to ‘shut up’ when the boy asked him not to drink and called his partner ‘f***ing lazy’.
The self employed joiner slammed a door upon leaving on March 12 and returned later with a pizza.
He was told he was not to enter the house and proceeded to push slices of pizza through the cat flap.
The court heard his child pleaded with his mother to contact the police who attended and found Hastings in the passenger seat of a car in the driveway.
Hastings’ solicitor told the court that his client had been identified as an alcoholic many years ago and had been sober for seven years.
The solicitor said: “He hadn’t touched a drink in seven years until this episode.
“He’s deeply ashamed and doesn’t have any excuse to his behaviour.
“He has returned to Alcoholics Anonymous and has not taken a drink since.
Sheriff Carole Cunninghame queried the trigger to his behaviour.
She added: “Very distressing circumstances for your partner and son.
“Clearly there’s some trigger and these problems don’t go away without assistance.”
Hastings pled guilty to behaving in a threatening and abusive manner by shouting and uttering offensive remarks.
He admitted repeatedly striking a door and pushing slices of pizza through a cat flap.
Sentencing was deferred for a later date for Hastings to be of good behaviour.
