Motherwell teenager Alex Dunn is having the time of his life down on the Gold Coast.

He helped the Scottish team get off to a winning start in the Mixed Doubles team event when Scotland beat Pakistan in their group opener on Thursday morning.

Playing alongside Eleanor O’Donnell, they comfortably beat Murad Ali and Palwasha Bashir 2-0 to help Scotland to a 5-0 win.

Speaking to the Wishaw Press from Australia, he said:“The tournament so far has been a great experience.

“Getting to play centre court against some of the best players in the world was amazing and the atmosphere is crazy!

“It was good to win the first few games to settle some nerves and of course always happy to win and get points for the team.”

Scotland next faced off against Sri Lanka in the afternoon on Thursday.

Again in the Mixed Doubles alongside O’Donnell, after losing the opening game they got one back before Sri Lanka took the decisive third to win the match.

He then joined Adam Hall to compete the Men’s Doubles, which they won 2-0 to help Scotland to another overall 4-1 win.

In their final group match, Scotland faced India on Friday morning. With Dunn not featuring, Scotland lost 5-0.

They had still done enough to progress to Saturday’s quarter finals. Scotland faced a hotlytipped Malaysia team.

Having lost the opening two games, it was down to Dunn and partner Adam Hall to keep Scotland in the tie.

Despite putting up a brave fight, the Malaysian pair were too strong and sent Malaysia through to the semi-finals.

Dunn said:“For the team to reach the quarters we are all pretty happy with the results with having quite a tricky group.

“We all played well and for each other.”

Dunn has now moved onto the Mixed Doubles and Men’s Doubles events. In the Mixed they got off to an easy winning start yesterday when Kenya retired.

They next face Sri Lanka today, while he was due to get his Doubles up and running against Seychelles yesterday.

He added:“The mixed doubles will be tough as we have good players ahead of us in the draw and if we get far enough then we will come up against the Olympic silver medalists from Malaysia.

“The target is to reach the quarter finals in the Men’s Doubles.”
