Cat-astrophe as Buzz van-ishes

- Niki Tennant

An anxious family, whose beloved pet cat Buzzed off as a stowaway in a double glazing van to Wishaw, is appealing for information from anyone in the town who may have seen him.

When three-year-old Buzz vanished on Thursday, May 3, from his home in Ruchill, owners Iain and Denise Cairns discovered he had jumped into an Anglian Windows van which was parked near their home.

The driver continued on to Wishaw, unaware that he had a travelling companion until he opened the van and Buzz leapt out and bounded off in the direction of Greenhead Moss Community Nature Park.

“We’re very worried about Buzz,” said Denise.

“He’s never been away overnight before and he needs daily medication for a condition which affects his tail.

“My girls are distraught and even my other cat, Jesse, is pining for him. I got the two cats from Cats Protection when they were both kittens. They’re litter mates so they’ve been together since birth. We all just want him home.”

Denise, a 39-year-old nursery worker, has been making the 46-mile round trip from her home in Glasgow to Wishaw every day since she found out about Buzz’s journey, searching the park and the surrounding areas, putting up posters, delivering leaflets and seeking assistance from local residents.

“The people of Wishaw have been amazing,” said Denise, whose daughters Hallie and Heidi are heart broken.

“Everyone has been so helpful and kind.

“There have been one or two reported sightings of Buzz, but so far nothing definite. I’ll keep looking though, no matter what it takes. I’ll never give up.”

Buzz is white with tortoise shell markings.

If anyone spots a cat resembling Buzz’s description in the area of the park, or if anyone has taken him in, they should contact Denise on 07751 234556.
