Cash for memories
A North Lanarkshire group has received a slice of £349,903 from the Big Lottery Fund.
The Sporting Memories Foundation Scotland was last week given the cash from the Big Lottery Fund as it aims to increase the number of opportunities for social reminiscence and sporting activities for older people who live with dementia, depression and loneliness.
The project meets weekly in Motherwell and makes a significant impact in helping tackle dementia, depression and loneliness, appealing to a wide range of older sports fans.
They include social and reminiscence activities, as well as games and inclusive physical activities – helping to create new friendships and improving their members’ mental and physical wellbeing in the process.
As well as recruiting additional staff, the funding will also support the call by the charity for more volunteers who want to ‘Join the Squad’.
There are a range of exciting roles available from helping to facilitate groups, support specific sporting activities, working with individual group members or even researching and writing about sport or gathering stories from group members.
