Colin’s running total for The Haven group
A Wishaw charity benefited from the big- hearted efforts of one London Marathon runner.
Photographer Colin Smith, 43, took on the 26 miles in aid of The Haven and raised an incredible £3800 for the charity, based in the grounds of University Hospital Wishaw.
Colin said: “I have a very good friend who has incurable breast cancer and she accesses services at The Haven centre in Wishaw.
“She receives vital emotional support and benefits greatly from complementary therapies.
“She was my inspiration for taking on this challenge and it was amazing to have my family and my dear friend celebrating at the end of the hottest London Marathon on record.
“I am blown away by the amount raised and send huge thanks to everyone who donated and helped me exceed my target.”
An avid runner, Colin, who lives in Glassford, was one of 40,000 runners amid temperatures of 24.1 degrees celsius.
A record 386,050 people applied for this year’s race – almost a third more than 2017 and the highest number for any marathon in the world.
Dr Rosalie Dunn MBE, Haven founder, said: “Colin made history for The Haven, as our first official London Marathon runner and we were delighted.
“Individuals like Colin taking on challenges and fundraising for us is essential. It allows The Haven as a charity to continue to grow and provide the much needed support people seek at such difficult times in their lives.
“The Haven team cannot thank Colin enough and we congratulate him on his success.”
