Health matters in the spotlight

- Ross Thomson

Wishaw Academy and St Ignatius’ Primary Schools have joined forces once again to promote their joint 2018 Health Week.

Both schools were involved in a huge range of activities to promote healthy living and being active.

A variety of activities were organised with the help of the pupil health committees from both schools.

Local clubs and organisations visited the schools to provide the children with taster sessions for a variety of sports, fitness activities, health promoting activities and healthy food lessons.

Sessions have included Zumba, Boxercise, dancing, tae kwon do, Allstars Fitness, Stephen Mair Myai Thai Boxing Club, badminton and archery, not to mention giant inflatables including the Monster Slide.

The pupils also received presentations from Police Scotland about online safety, Scottish Ambulance Ser vice, SSPCA, Warburton’s Bakery and Bella the Cow from Wiseman’s Dairy.

The schools also received donations of fruit and vegetables for smoothie tasting and bottles of water to keep the children hydrated during their busy week.

St Ignatius acting deputy head Stephen Fionda said: “The children and staff have absolutely loved learning about healthy living and have had a tremendous time working together in all activities to further strengthen the excellent working relations within this very successful joint campus.

“Both schools would like to thank all of the agencies, clubs and helpers who took part in this very active and healthy week.”
