Vision students in the medals
Taekwondo youngsters on form
Vision Taekwondo students have been doing their coaches proud so far this year.
Over the past few months promising stars have attended three events – The Scorpion 1-2-1 event in Barnsley, The Ultimate Open in Barnsley and the Yorkshire 1-2-1 in Bradford.
Coach Ross Eden, who set up the club with brother Craig, said: “In the first event we achieved one gold from our small team attending which was won by six-year-old Ciaran Quinn.
“This was Ciaran’s first- ever competition so it was a very good achievement. Also competing in this event was John Quinn, Caitlin Quinn and Sophia Bett who all fought excellently in their matches.”
“In the second event, The Ultimate Open, we achieved two gold, two silver and five bronze medals in a very high standard event.
“Our gold medals were won by Ellie McCormack (aged 16) and Logan Rae (aged 11). Silver medalists were Jordan Horswell and Cameron Rae, both in the Children Male category.
“The five bronze medals were won by Kyle Lannigan (Children) Sophia Bett (Pee Wee), Lee Horswell (Cadet) Kirsty Marshall ( Senior) and Jade Rankin (Cadet).
“In the final event we achieved two gold medals from our team of eight competitors, with these being won by Ciaran Quinn and Andrew McRoberts (15), with the latter competing in his first-ever event.
“The rest of the team competing in this event all fought excellently in what was for many their first event. They were Caitlin Quinn, John Quinn, Kerr Martin, Kaiden McCabe, Amy Kerrigan and Alishba Ahmed.”
Separately from the competitions, student Lee Horswell (12) has been selected for the Great Britain National Cadet Programme.
He will attend training sessions at the National Taekwondo Centre in Manchester.
Ross said: “This is a massive achievement for Lee and we are both extremely proud of him.
“Also, Ellie McCormack recently attended the Presidents Cup in Athens. This event has become one of the biggest in both Europe and the World and Ellie represented the club there.
“She lost to the eventual winner of the competition from Russia but has gained valuable experience to help further her development.”
