Dalziel St Andrew’s Parish Church morning service in the church on Sunday at 11am with include the baptism of baby Ruairidh. All will be made welcome to come along and welcome the newest member of the church’s family. The service is available to watch live via the church website at dalzielsta­ndrews.org.uk and for catch-up later on You Tube. British Sign Language signing and electronic note taking to assist those who are deaf or hard of hearing is provided at this service. The Sisterhood meets today for their monthly gettogethe­r. The joint guild’s summer rally will be held in Motherwell South Parish Church on Thursday, starting at 7.30pm. The Kirk Session has its final meeting before the summer break on Thursday, June 14, at 7.30pm. The Congregati­onal Board has rearranged the date for their meeting, which will now take place on Thursday, June 28, also at 7.30pm. Special events will be taking place to mark the Year of Young People, on Saturday. The following weekend marks the National Weekend of Invitation which will see events taking place around the country from June 15-17, when all are being invited to come along to the morning service in Dalziel St Andrew’s Church on Sunday, June 17 at 11am. Whether you are new to the church or making a return visit, all will be made most welcome. In advance of the service there are lots of events planned for the church. The fun starts on Friday, June 15, at 6.30pm the an all ages quiz and curry night (pasta alternativ­e available). Then on the Saturday, there will be an open afternoon tea from 2pm until 4pm in the large hall. Finishing the day with a family film night featuring, Ferdinand. Bring your own bean bags with everything else supplied. No charge will be made for attendance at any of the above events. The next messy church event will be held on June 24, starting at the usual time of 3.30pm with lots of fun, crafts and games for all the family plus refreshmen­ts, and will conclude with a barbecue, weather permitting at 5pm. It is focused on young families and again, no charge will be made for attendance. Please register on the church website if you intend to come along to this event. On Sunday, June 24 an all age service will be held in the church at 11am, to mark the end of the current session of the Sunday school and Fusion Bible class. All will be welcome to come along to this service. This year’s summer Sunday school will begin the following week, on July 1, when it will take the theme of Emoji Bible stories, featuring fun, stories, games and snacks. All children will be made welcome. Lanarkshir­e Carers Centre Board of directors are holding an extraordin­ary general meeting on June 25, at 11.45am. The meeting will take place in Motherwell United Services, Mabel Street, Motherwell and will close at 12.30pm, with refreshmen­ts and a light lunch. Any carers from the Wishaw, Newmains and Shotts areas, who wish to attend the EGM, should contact Lanarkshir­e Carers Centre Ltd to book a place by June 14 at the latest. Girls’ Brigade celebrates its 125th anniversar­y this year. The divisions of Motherwell and Wishaw are holding a GB 125 social evening on Friday, June 8, at 7.30pm in Colville Park Country Club. Tickets cost £10 and includes a hot buffet, photo booth and DJ. All current and former members are welcome to attend this event. South Wishaw Parish Church Wednesday mid-day service is at noon followed by refreshmen­ts. Saturday sees the annual summer fete held between 2pm and 4pm. As well as all the usual stalls and activities there will be afternoon teas; tea tickets cost £3 and are now available with free admission to the grounds. These tickets will also be available at the gate. Sunday morning worship service at 11am will be conducted by Rev Terry Moran. The next Kirk Session meeting is June 12, at 7pm. Please note the change of time for this meeting. Any items for agenda considerat­ion are required by 11am on Friday. The church coordinati­ng group meets on Friday at 11am. The funeral Services for the late Mrs Nancy Weir will be held on Friday, June 15 and afterwards at Holytown Crematoriu­m at 1.30pm, followed by a thanksgivi­ng service in South Wishaw Church at 2.30pm. The local Church of Scotland congregati­ons are holding a Sing and Sizzle event in the grounds of Bonkle Parish Church on June 17. The Kingdom Kids Sunday youth groups will hold an outing to Polkemmet Country Park on Sunday, June 24. Names will be taken at the service from this Sunday. Lanarkshir­e Family History Society’s next meeting will hear about researchin­g soldiers of the Great War, 1914-19. Ken Nisbet, who compiled the Nairnshire roll of honour of the Great War, has been involved in military research for over 30 years. He will explain how people can research their relatives’ service by looking at the latest online resources and how they can best be used. The talk takes place on Thursday, June 14, at 7pm in the GLO Centre, Muir Street, Motherwell. All welcome. This will be the last meeting before their summer break. Monthly meetings resume in September, but the society’s research centre at 122-124 Merry Street, Motherwell will remain open during this time. Rotary Club Last week saw the Rotary club of Motherwell and Wishaw’s assembly evening, where the club’s convenors gave their proposals for the new session. Brenda Waugh, the 1020 area assistant governor, attended the meeting and suggested that clubs become more involved with the local community to enable the good work of the Rotary to be seen at first hand. A number of convenors echoed these sentiments in their own talks. The club programme of speakers until December is almost complete, with a number of interestin­g speakers signed up. Roy Simpson as youth convenor provided members with details of the local schools’ involvemen­t over the next 12 months. The May numbers club winners were rotarians Jim Rae, Jim Robertson and John Robson. Wishaw United Reformed Church service on Sunday at 1.15am in Coltness Community Centre will be conducted by Mr Ivar Struthers. Everyone welcome. Cambusneth­an Club there is social dancing in the concert hall plus cash bingo on Thursdays; Friday sees cabaret and dancing to Liz Clarke plus bingo. Saturday sees cabaret and dancing in the concert hall with top vocalists, Jackie Clarke and Lorna Dolan plus bingo. Snowball of £150 and treasure chest. There is dancing with Johnny Weir plus bingo on Monday and Slimming World class at 7.30pm on Tuesdays. The Help for Heroes show, featuring a variety of top acts will be hosted in the club on June 3, from 1pm to 7pm; tickets cost £6, and donations for the raffle taking place on the day would be greatly appreciate­d.
