Pupils put their skills on the hoarding

-

A building site hoarding designed by primary pupils is now up for a top award.

The site hoarding, designed and decorated by pupils from Alexander Peden Primary School in Harthill, is being entered into this year’s UK-wide Ivor Goodsite Hoarding Competition run by the Considerate Constructors Scheme.

Now in its sixth year, the Ivor Goodsite Hoarding Competition enables children of all ages to unleash their artistic talents on building site hoardings throughout the country.

Pupils from Alexander Peden Primary were invited by provider of partnership housing Lovell to design and decorate the hoarding at the site of the former Harthill Primary School, where the firm is building 20 houses on behalf of North Lanarkshire Council.

One board was designed by primary six pupils and focused on the popular children’s novel Charlotte’s Web.

Primary three and four pupils designed a second board with a focus on the topic of Ancient Egypt, which they have also been working on in class.

All schools entering the Ivor Goodside Hoarding Competition receive congratulatory medals, certificates and goody bags as well as a trophy and a Hoarding Competition banner to display on site.

Wendy Galbraith, principal teacher at Alexander Peden Primary School, was delighted the school had taken part.

She said:“Taking part in community projects like this one gives children the chance to learn more about their local area. They also had the opportunity to visit the Harthill site where the new houses are being built and to see first-hand construction in action. It’s also a fabulous example of companies and council services working together to regenerate local areas while delivering a range of community benefits.”
