A Wishaw man who took part in two Arc­tic Con­voys in World War Two was fi­nally recog­nised – seven decades af­ter the ex­pe­di­tions.

Great-grand­fa­ther Wil­liam Docherty, 93, re­ceived the Arc­tic Star for his part in aid mis­sions to Rus­sia, which Churchill de­scribed as“the worst jour­ney in the world.”

Navy man Wil­liam re­ceived his medal in the post af­ter the de­ci­sion was made by the Prime Min­is­ter to award the much-be­lated hon­our.
