Plan for 60 new homes
Plans to build up to 60 new homes in Wishaw have been unveiled.
A design statement for a mixture of council houses and flats in the Dimsdale area has been submitted to planners.
The site, near Dimsdale Road and Hospital Road, will see 60 new build homes comprising a mix of semi-detached and terraced homes as well as 24 cottage flats.
The design statement notes: “The site covers an area of approximately two hectares within the area of Dimsdale and currently comprises predominantly vacant greenfield land.
“The size of the development is such that a total play space with a minimum of 1500 metres is required.
“However, there is insufficent space to accommodate this requirement and as such arrangements should be made with the council’s Play Services team for the site and any off-site financial contributions.”
The plans for the new homes come just a month after the council unveiled plans to build 400 new homes across North Lanarkshire.
A site in the Burnhall Place and Mossburn Street area of Waterloo was one of six across the local authority area which formed part of the authority’s building programme.
The local authority have set themselves an ambitious plan of building 5,000 new council homes by 2035.
NLC leader Jim Logue said: “These additional sites for proposed new homes greatly move on our ambitious plans to transform communities.
“We’re building new roads, schools and housing developments alongside inspirational plans to revitalise our town centres.
“Things are moving at a pace and our communities are at the centre of this vision to make North Lanarkshire a desirable place to live, learn, work, invest and visit.”
Over 130 homes have been bought back into public ownership this year by the council’s open market purchase scheme.
A report to the local authority’s housing committee said over £13 million had been allocated to buy the homes for council stock. The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) has launched a new online nomination and voting platform for volunteer opportunities in Lanarkshire.
FSB is the voice of the UK’S small businesses and the self-employed and is the UK’S largest memberled business organisation.
The new online system will make it easier for prospective candidates to self-nominate. FSB hopes it will increase both the number and diversity of members standing for elected offices this year. In previous years members had to attend an annual general meeting to take part in the vote.
FSB national chairman Mike Cherry said:“fsb is a proud member-led organisation and all our member leaders have one thing in common – like me, they all run businesses.this means that as an organisation, we, the members, lead from the front.”
