Pupils take part in STEM event at college
STEM Event A group of eight S1 pupils got to experience what a career in STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Maths) has to offer at the Big Bang North Lanarkshire event at New College Lanarkshire,
Held on October 3, the event brought together numerous schools across Lanarkshire and is hoped to have inspired some of the school’s young people into choosing a STEM career.
The pupils got to meet partners in the STEM field, such as Dawnfresh,viridor, Devro, Go Construct,vex Robotics and many more.
During the day the pupils got to experience a range of activities and demonstrations; from learning about the spherification process in catering to controlling robotics. Arnold Clark Apprenticeship Bus The Arnold Clark Apprenticeship bus visited Dalziel onwednesday, October 3.
This allowed some of the school’s young people the opportunity to learn about apprenticeships on offer in the automotive industry.
The unique bus included an exhibition space complete withtvs and ipads with simulated games and quizzes, six interactive boards which can be used to try out some of the skills learned in different apprenticeships and a a seating area with tablets to apply for an apprenticeship.
The sessions on the bus lasted 20 minutes and eight pupils were accommodated per session. with 90 pupils attending the event overall. Shoe Box Appeal 2018 The Shoe box appeal has started and as there are only a small number of boxes collected, the closing date to submit a box will be Friday November 2.
