OAP changes plea overallegedcharge

-

A Morningside pensioner has changed his plea over an alleged dangerous driving charge against him.

John Smith had pleaded guilty by letter in September but was told to seek legal advice when he appeared in the dock for the first time earlier this month.

At Hamilton Sheriff Court last week, Smith guilty plea was withdrawn and a not guilty plea was entered on his behalf.

It is alleged 80-year-old Smith repeatedly drove too close to other road users and repeatedly sounded his horn without reason on May 12, near his home in Cathburn Road .

Smith is also accused of driving at excessive speed for the road and the driving conditions as well as driving at speed towards horses which were being ridden on the road.

The pensioner also allegedly repeatedly pressed the accelerator of his vehicle without any cause to do so.

A further hearing in the case will be heard at Hamilton Sheriff Court on January 10.

Smith is expected to stand trial on February 6.
