Wishaw Press - - SAY IT WITH FLOWERS -

The curtain has dropped on another show-stopping season at Hamilton Park Racecourse at which more than 50,000 racegoers attended.

A host of top sporting action on the track, and outstanding entertainment off it, contributed to a year of success, including record-breaking attendances at Ladies’ Night and the Lanark Silver Bell Racenight.

The course was also awarded the coveted five-star Visitor Attraction from Visitscotland and is a finalist in four categories at the annual RCA Showcase and Awards.

Vivien Currie, chief executive at Hamilton Park Racecourse, said: “We’ve been overwhelmed by the response to this season’s programme of racing and entertainment.

“We are delighted that attendance is soaring, and our successes are being recognised in the awards we are getting.

“The team has continued to build on the successes of previous seasons with investment in the venue itself, our on- the- track action and extensive programme of entertainment.”

Highlights across the season included the EK East Kilbride Ladies’ Night, which saw almost 10,000 revellers descend on the racecourse for the hotlyanticipated fixture.

With ticket sales up 17 per cent on 2017, and record-breaking entries to the Best Dressed Lady competition, visitors lapped up performances from powerhouse songstress Heather Small, TV star and I’m A Celebrity winner DJ Georgia ‘Toff’ Toffolo, alongside a guest appearance from Calum Best. On the course, the groundbreaking Silk Series, aimed at changing attitudes in the sport, was a highlight of the race card, showcasing a host of talented female riders.
