Overtown Parish Church morning service in Overtown church on Sunday is at 11am. There will be a creche for younger children. The OK Club and B Club Seven will meet at 10.50am in the church hall. All visitors to the church welcome. Armistice Day Events in the Overtown and Waterloo community to commemorate the centenary of the end of World War One, will begin with a Night of Nostalgia and Remembrance in the church on Saturday, November 10, from 7pm until 9pm. The evening will feature a selection of music, stories and memorabilia on display. There will be contributions from the church youth organisations and representatives within the community. Tea, coffee and home baking will be served at the end of the evening. On the Sunday, at 6am, along with 1000 pipers across the country, Gemma Mcvey (nee Forbes) will play the air, the Battle’s O’er, from Overtown church, which is traditionally played by pipers after a battle. There will then be a special memorial service at 10.45am. Then at 6.55pm that evening, in association with the Air Training Corps, Army Cadet Force, Sea Cadet Force, Boys’ Brigade and the Light Infantry Bugler’s Association, Kai Mcleod of 1st Overtown Boys’ Brigade will sound the Last Post, on behalf of Overtown Parish Church at 7pm. Colin Hyslop will ring the Overtown church bell, along with many other local churches. The church is proud to be playing a part in this historic international event to commemorate the centenary of the end of the Great War, and to recognise the contribution and sacrifice made by the men and women of this community. Lunch club continues in the church hall between noon and 1.30pm each Monday. There is a two course lunch served, main course with tea, coffee or juice followed by dessert, all for £4.
