Lout used pillow in twisted bid to suffocate victim

Man jailed for nasty attack on woman

- Ross Thomson

A brute, who tried to suffocate a woman during a violent attack in Wishaw, has been put behind bars.

Darren Lyttle placed a pillow over his victim’s face to try and suffocate her at the property in Greenfield Crescent, Cambusnethan, on November 4 last year.

Lyttle was due to stand trial earlier this year but opted to change his plea to guilty to an amended charge.

A charge Lyttle put his hands around the woman’s neck was dropped by prosecutors.

On his trial date, Lyttle also admitted possessing cocaine.

At a previous court date, Lyttle pleaded guilty to three charges relating to an incident at a property in Greenlaw Avenue, Coltness, on March 16.

Lyttle assaulted the same woman by pushing her and throwing a diary at her.

He also behaved in a threatening manner by shouting, swearing and repeatedly sending the woman threatening texts.

Lyttle then made a call to the victim when he shouted, swore and made threats.

He also breached bail conditions by being at the Greenlaw Avenue home after 4pm.

At Hamilton Sheriff Court last week, Lyttle was sentenced to 12 months in prison.

He will also be supervised for six months when he is released.
