Drinker’s car shame

-

A boozed-up woman got behind the wheel of a car and ran over a man’s foot.

Charlene Dalziel was more than three-and-a-half times the legal drink-drive limit when she mounted the kerb in Motherwell’s Bellshill Road.

The 2 6 - y e a r- o l d appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court last week and pleaded guilty to a total of five charges against her in relation to the incident which took place on August 14.

Dalziel admitted taking a car without the consent of the owner and driving the vehicle despite only having a provisional licence, having no qualified driver with her and not displaying L Plates.

She also pleaded guilty to driving without insurance.

Dalziel drove the car without due care and attention, whilst under the influence of alcohol and without shoes.

The car then mounted the kerb, collided with other road users and a fence before Dalziel drove over the man’s foot.

A breath test showed the accused had 84 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

The legal limit is 22 microgrammes.

Dalziel was cleared of two charges relating to leaving the scene of an accident.

Sheriff Ray Sma l l deferred sentence on Dalziel, of Bellshill Road, Motherwell, until November 29 and called for a range of reports to be prepared for her next appearance in the dock.

The accused was disqualified from driving in the interim period.
