Calderhead High School parent council have their next meeting on Thursday, December 6, at 6pm. If you are a parent or guardian of a pupil, you can come along and observe one of their meetings. The parent council also have a Twitter account “@Calderhead­pc” and the minutes of meetings can be found on the school’s website. Gala day If you shop online, you can now donate to next year’s gala day by using the following link at www. easyfundra­ising.org.uk/causes/ shottsgala­day/. 3rd Shotts Scout Group The scout hall at 100 Benhar Road, Shotts, is available for any organisati­ons in the community to use, and requests to do so should be made to Mrs Mary Lees (group scout leader) on 01501 821658. EU Congregati­onal Church is open for prayer and reflection on Wednesdays, from 11am with a short service at 11.30am till noon. There is soup, tea and chat in the hall from noon till 1pm. Tonight there will be a managers’ meeting at 7pm. The Sunday morning service at 11.30am will be a Remembranc­e service, followed by a community event in the church hall from 12.30pm till 2pm with music, food and chat. The Sunday evening service is at 6.30pm, and singing group meets on Tuesday nights at 7pm. Tickets are now on sale for the church’s Christmas fayre on Saturday, November 24. Salvation Army Corps Youth Connection meets tonight from 6pm till 8pm. On Thursday, the toddlers group is at 9.30am. On Thursday evening, the prayer meeting is at 7pm. Friday Club meets at 5.45pm, followed by the Jam Club at 6.45pm. The Sunday morning meeting will be a Remembranc­e service at 10.45am at the war memorial. The hall will be open for anyone who cannot make it down to the war memorial. For those who are able to, there will be a short reflection afterwards followed by a faith lunch. Bon Accord Club The club are taking new bookings, so do get in touch if you would like to hold an event there. The function hall is available to hire for events and weddings. Members should be at the hall for 10.15am, to move off at 10.20am and proceed to the war memorial for the service which starts at 10.45am. Thereafter, to Shotts EU Congregati­onal church for a service there. Tickets are now on sale for the Scottish cabaret and dance on Saturday, November 24, with Bobby Parks and Chris Clarke. Lodge St John 471 have their next regular meeting this Friday, at 7.30pm in the Orange hall. The business of the evening will be an FC degree, which will be conferred by a joint deputation from Lodge Oak no 877 and Thane of Fife no 781. Community council meets on the first Monday of the month in the community centre in Kirk Road at 7.30pm. Members of the public are welcome to attend these meetings. Slimming group has classes every Wednesday at 9.30am, 5.30pm and 7.30pm in Epic Studios, Shottskirk Road (above Ladbrokes at Dykehead Cross). It offers art classes for all ages. Mondays from 6pm to 7.30pm is for eight to 11-year-olds, Tuesdays from 10.30am till noon is for adults, with a class for four to seven-year-olds from 6pm to 7.30pm. On Wednesdays from 6pm to 7.30pm, there is a class for ages 12 and upwards. Additional classes can be scheduled based on demand. The project’s thrift shop at 261 Station Road is open Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 10am till 3pm, and the warehouse at 100 Calderhead Road is open Monday to Friday, from 9.30am till 4pm. Calderhead Erskine Church The kirk session has now appointed Rev Iain Murdoch as locum minister for Shotts Calderhead Erskine Parish church of Scotland. Do also let him know of anyone who is sick at home or in hospital. Services at Calderhead Erskine church are at 11am every Sunday in Shotts, and 12.30pm in Allanton. Remembranc­e Day services this Sunday will take place in Shotts at 10.45am, and in Allanton at 12.30pm. Allanton lights switch on ceremony will take place in the village at 6.30pm on December 2. A service of lessons and carols is on December 23, at 11am in Shotts, and in Allanton at 12.30pm. Watchnight service will be held the following day on December 24, at 11.15pm in Allanton. Yoga A new yoga class will start in Shotts community centre on Wednesday, November 7, at 6.30pm. Each class costs £7. All welcome. Ironworks Bowling Club Saturday sees bingo and dancing to Willie Mack, from 8.30pm till 11.30pm, door fee is only £1.50, with bingo and dancing to Satisfacti­on the following week on November 17. Jim Roy is holding a pairs tournament in aid of the British Heart Foundation on that date. This event is open to mixed teams, comprising of both male and female players. It cost £6 to enter a team in the knock out competitio­n and anyone interested can call Jim Roy on 0778840139­7, or put their name on the sheet in the club’s notice board. Dates to look out for, include Vicky Grant on December 8, door fee is £1.50; New Year’s Eve party on December 31, with dancing to Satisfacti­on. Starting from December an indoor carpet bowls promiscuou­s game will run every Friday night, from 7.30pm till 11.30pm, to which all will be made welcome. zens’ centre at 7-9pm on Fridays.
