DREAM GOAL

It will stay with me for the rest of my life, saysturnbull

- Ben Ramage

David Turnbull said he has already achieved his footballing ambition, despite only breaking into the Motherwell team.

The 18-year-old midfielder was the star of the show for the Steelmen, scoring a 30yard screamer as Stephen Robinson’s men recorded their first win at Fir Park this season.

Turnbull has supported Motherwell since he was young enough to kick a ball.

And in the aftermath of the win over Dundee Turnbull admitted his football dreams have already came true.

He said: “I’ve dreamt of that moment all my life: scoring at Fir Park and especially doing it the way I did it.

“My whole family were here to see it, my mum, dad, papa, uncle, brother – everybody.

“I’m sure they’ll all be buzzing.

“I’ve grown up my full life being a Motherwell fan and I have played with them since I was nine years old so it’s always been my dream to play in the first team.

“That was a special moment and it will stay with me for the rest of my life.”

The former Coltness High pupil has a huge level of support from his old school.

The school’s Twitter account posted in the wake of his goal: “Utterly delighted for David Turnbull scoring his first senior home goal for Motherwell today and picking up Man of the Match!

“Living the dream playing for the team he supports.

“Couldn’t happen to a nicer lad and family.”

The teenager opened his Motherwell account in the 2- 0 win over St Mirren in Paisley.

But he insisted Saturday’s strike was better, especially with the importance of moving the Fir Park side eight points clear of the Taysiders, who sit bottom of the table.

“That’s probably one of the best goals I’ve scored in my life,” said Turnbull. “I’m still buzzing over it. “I scored on Wednesday but that was a better one and it was an even better feeling scoring at Fir Park as well.

“That’s two massive wins for us.

“We’ve not been far off it. We just needed that little bit of luck and it’s finally starting to turn our way.”
