Allanton Parish Church service, Discovery club and creche is at 12.30pm on Sunday. Lunch club is held in the senior citizens’ centre on Mondays and Wednesdays, new members welcome. Mothers and toddlers’ group meets in Allanton church hall on Tuesdays at 10am, and the women’s guild meet in the church at 2pm. 1st Allanton Girls’ Brigade gather in the hall of Calderhead Erskine Parish church on Tuesdays, at their usual time. Street dance class is held in Allanton Church hall between 5.30pm and 7.15pm on Thursdays. Youth group meets in the senior citizens’ centre at 7 to 9pm on Fridays. Carluke Camera Club was an ‘inhouse’ meeting, led by three of the club’s most experience­d members. Chris Bonington, Robert Hendry and Cammy Scott each delivered a 20-minute presentati­on on a different aspect of processing digital images. The new format was well received by members and is likely to be repeated at meetings in the near future. Monday evening’s members’ workshop class dealt with adjusting and sharpening of pictures during processing. This Friday’s speaker will be Roger Hance, from Colchester in Essex, and fellow of the Royal Photograph­ic Society. His talk will be entitled ‘The more I practice, the luckier I get!’. It will deal with various aspects of digital photograph­y. The club meets at 7.30pm on Fridays in St Andrews Church hall, Mount Stewart Street. Visitors and new members, including beginners, are most welcome. Entertainm­ent was provided by the Glasgow group, Geez A Break, who provided a fabulous night of comedy and singing. The audience were in fits of laughter for most of the evening, and also enjoyed the group’s terrific singing. Their amazing pantomime, the “Ugly Sisters” was the highlight of the night and had the audience in tears. Tonight’s meeting will be another open night. Taylor Fashions will present a display of Christmas outfits which will also be on sale. Everyone is welcome to come along. Brighter village associatio­n will once again, hold a Christmas light switch on event in Overtown community centre. It will take place on Saturday, November 24. Stall holders can begin building their stalls at 10am, and the doors will open to the public at noon. The lights will then be switched on at 3pm, and Santa Claus will be in his grotto for most of the afternoon.
