Funny man Stewart on stage at concert hall

- Stefanie Mccourt

“You know who really gives kids a bad name? Posh and Becks.”

The gag earned deadpan comedian Stewart Francis with a funniest joke award at the Edinburgh Fringe, and fans can expect plenty more like it when he performs at Motherwell Concert Hall next month.

The quick-witted Canadian has announced his retirement from stand-up, and his Into The Punset tour will be the last chance to catch him on stage.

The hugely successful one-line wizard has become a household name in the UK and Ireland over the last decade, thanks to his perfectly crafted gags and expert timing, which he has taken to sell-out audiences across the world.

Craig Ferguson, CBS’ Late Late Show, even credited him as “one of the funniest comedians in the world,” while he scooped the Dave’s Funniest Joke Of The Fringe award in 2012.

Stewart is also known for his appearances on Mock the Week, Live at the Apollo, Dave’s One Night Stand, 8 Out of Ten Cats and Not Going Out, and featured on Celebrity Mastermind.

Into the Punset kicked off last month in Soho, and will culminate in a finale in Hammersmith in December next year.

Stewart will peform for Lanarkshire comedy fans at the Concert Hall on Saturday, December 1. decade or so.

“But as a fully-paid up comedian, who takes his vocation very seriously to boot, through the tears there will be a constant desire to arouse boundless joy in his audience.

“So expect some tears, yes, but more to the point expect the veritable barrel of laughs that can be expected of a punmaster of Stewart Francis’ calibre.”

Tickets for the local show cost £18.50, and are available to book by calling the box office on 01698 403120.

The show gets underway at 8pm, and is suitable for those aged 16 plus.
