Stolen taxi crash drama

An investigation is underway after a man was rushed to hospital after crashing a taxi which was reported as stolen from a Wishaw street.

Police received information that the vehicle had been taken from Cambusnethan Street in the early hours of Thursday morning. They traced the car to the Bellside roundabout near Cleland.

However, the driver then sped off, crashing into a barrier on the dual carriageway and overturning.

A police spokesperson said the man was rushed to hospital in the aftermath of the crash. His condition is now described as stable.

The spokesperson added: “An investigation into the circumstances is now underway and the matter has been referred to the Police Investigations & Review Commissioner.”
