A lovely surprise for my amazing big sister
Flowers say it all for family
After years of helping others in times of heartache, it was Wishaw mum Angela Quinn’s turn to be thought of.
Angela was over the moon when her sister Pauline Cutler surprised her with a gorgeous bouquet of flowers after nominating her for our weekly competition.
‘Amazing’ Angela has spent the last few years fundraising along with her family to provide cuddle cots for local undertakers.
Cuddle cots are cooling mattresses that can be placed in a cot or a pram.
They allow parents to stay with them for days before their baby’s funeral, allowing them to hug and dress them and spend precious time with them before saying goodbye.
Pauline said: “Angela is an amazing person who always thinks of others before herself.
“She’s a brilliant big sister to me and is always there for myself and the rest of the family when we need her. We can’t thank her enough for what she does for everyone.”
Pauline and Angela’s an Edinburgh crematorium two years earlier.
They went on to raise £1600 for a cuddle cot which they handed over last year to Mcallister’s funeral directors in Wishaw.
They have now raised enough funds to purchase four of these expensive cots.
Both Pauline and Angela were motivated to fundraise for cuddle cots due to their own experiences of loss.
Nineteen years ago, Pauline lost a baby and, also in the 1990s, Angela had the heartache of losing four babies.
Angela was emotional when Pauline surprised her at house with the flowers.
Pauline added: “I told her to make sure she would be in because I was popping round for a cuppa. She had no idea what was going on when I turned up with the Wishaw Press photographer and the flowers. It was a lovely surprise for her. She was over the moon.”
