Trial set for man’s stadium threats charge

- Court reporter

A Wishaw man is accused of assaulting two police officers in Fir Park Stadium.

Gary Fernon appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court last week and denied five charges against him.

Several of the alleged offences are said to have taken place in the stadium on July 16 last year.

It is alleged that Fernon, of Hawthorn Drive, behaved in a threatening manner in the Davie Cooper Suite by shouting, swearing and making threats and abusive remarks.

Fernon is also accused of resisting arrest by struggling violently with police officers, lashing out and preventing them from placing him in handcuffs.

It is alleged that Fernon assaulted a female police officer by pushing her on the body and kicking her on the leg.

It is also claimed he bit a male officer on his arm.

The final charge is of allegedly possessing cocaine at Motherwell Police Office.

The 33-year-old will return to Hamilton Sheriff Court on February 4 for a further hearing.

He is due to stand trial on March 1.
