Trial set for man’s sta­dium threats charge

A Wishaw man is ac­cused of as­sault­ing two po­lice of­fi­cers in Fir Park Sta­dium.

Gary Fer­non ap­peared at Hamil­ton Sher­iff Court last week and de­nied five charges against him.

Sev­eral of the al­leged of­fences are said to have taken place in the sta­dium on July 16 last year.

It is al­leged that Fer­non, of Hawthorn Drive, be­haved in a threat­en­ing man­ner in the Davie Cooper Suite by shout­ing, swear­ing and mak­ing threats and abu­sive re­marks.

Fer­non is also ac­cused of re­sist­ing ar­rest by strug­gling vi­o­lently with po­lice of­fi­cers, lash­ing out and pre­vent­ing them from plac­ing him in hand­cuffs.

It is al­leged that Fer­non as­saulted a fe­male po­lice of­fi­cer by push­ing her on the body and kick­ing her on the leg.

It is also claimed he bit a male of­fi­cer on his arm.

The fi­nal charge is of al­legedly pos­sess­ing co­caine at Mother­well Po­lice Of­fice.

The 33-year-old will re­turn to Hamil­ton Sher­iff Court on Fe­bru­ary 4 for a fur­ther hear­ing.

He is due to stand trial on March 1.
