Man struck with belt

A do­mes­tic ar­gu­ment led to awishaw woman ap­pear­ing in the dock.

At Hamil­ton Sher­iff Court last week, Caris Devine ap­peared for sen­tenc­ing af­ter she ad­mit­ted two charges against her re­lat­ing to an in­ci­dent at her home in Green­field Drive on Oc­to­ber 10.

Devine, 22, pleaded guilty to as­sault­ing a man by re­peat­edly strik­ing him on the head and body with a belt.

She also ad­mit­ted pour­ing a quan­tity of liq­uid over the vic­tim’s body.

On the same date, Devine be­haved in a threat­en­ing man­ner likely to cause fear and alarm by shout­ing, swearin and act­ing in an ag­gres­sive man­ner. She then threw a num­ber of items of cloth­ing that be­longed to the man out of a win­dow.

A charge that Devine threw a games con­sole, which be­longed to the man, out of an up­stairs win­dow dam­ag­ing it was dropped by pros­e­cu­tors.

In court last week, Sher­iff Alas­tair Mac­fadyen opted to put Devine on an 18-month com­mu­nity pay­back or­der with su­per­vi­sion.

She will also be re­quired to carry out 140 hours of un­paid work.

This must be com­pleted within the next nine months.
