Festive celebrations have begun in Motherwell as the Christmas lights were switched on.

Merry Street was the centre of the festivities, where live music and dance performances took place.

Actor Stephen Purdon, Bob in River City, and Provost Jean Jones lit up the town with the help of Santa.

The Logans, Signature Dance Studio, EMIAH (Emma White Music) and Grace Notes got the crowd into the festive spirit.
