Learner driver was three times over drinks limit

A man was caught driving through a Wishaw street with­out a li­cence and well over the le­gal drink-drive limit.

Of­fi­cers stopped John Paul Mc­caf­ferty in Kirk Road on Novem­ber 2.

Mc­caf­ferty, Aller­shaw Place, Wishaw, ad­mit­ted three charges when he ap­peared in the dock at Hamil­ton Sher­iff Court last week.

The 35-year-old pleaded guilty to be­ing more than three times the le­gal drinks limit.

A breath test re­vealed Mc­caf­ferty had 79 mi­cro­grammes of al­co­hol in 100 millil­itres of breath.the le­gal limit is 22 mi­cro­grammes.

Mc­caf­ferty also ad­mit­ted driving with­out in­sur­ance and hold­ing only a pro­vi­sional li­cence.

When Mc­caf­ferty was stopped he was not dis­play­ing L plates and was not ac­com­pa­nied by a qual­i­fied driver.

Sher­iff Al­lan Mckay fined Mc­caf­ferty a to­tal of £460 and dis­qual­i­fied him from driving for the next 12 months.
