Care home set to expand

- Lynn Love

Mears Care at Home is expanding in North Lanarkshire and has announced 20 new jobs for workers in its team - including Wishaw and Motherwell.

Local manager Nyree Doyle said: “We are delighted to announce 20 new jobs in North Lanarkshire for care workers. It’s a mix of full and part time positions with flexible working. Many of our care workers have changed career to come and work in care at home.

“It’s a very flexible way of working as you are out and about all the time. If you have other commitments you can work weekends and this might suit student nurses or those with childcare to manage.”

Mears provides care at home to older people and those with reduced mobility or additional needs across Scotland through a network of 20 local regional offices.

At present the North Lanarkshire team based out of an office in Coatbridge provides care to 250 people across the area with a team of 110 care workers and support staff.

Ny r e e c o nt i nu e d : “Everyone has their part to play in this – not just our care at home workers. Family members and neighbours can provide support too. So many people can be socially isolated, and the only person they might see in a day is their care worker. We have a vital role.”

Mears provides full training for new recruits, and for those changing career from retail or manufacturing to working with people and providing care at home.
