A pris­oner who went on the run af­ter hand­cuff­ing a se­cu­rity of­fi­cer to a hospi­tal toi­let was jailed for 18 months.

And when Jamie Roy, 25, was even­tu­ally tracked down by cops in­wishaw, he threat­ened to kill them and their fam­i­lies.

Roy slipped his slack­ened hand­cuff from his wrist in a toi­let while at­tached to G4S of­fi­cer on a long chain.

He put the hand­cuff round a handrail and pushed past her on his way out of the room. Three lo­cal box­ers were go­ing for gold in the Gold Coast af­ter be­ing con­firmed as be­ing part of­team Scotland at the Com­mon­wealth Games.

Cle­land ABC’S Stephen Newns will join 2014 Games vet­er­ans Reece Mcfad­den, and Keir Hardie ABC’S Aqeel Ahmed in the squad.

Stephen’s coach at Cle­land ABC Ron­nie Black­burn said: “All the kids at our club want to fol­low in Stephen’s foot­steps. He trains hard and is re­ally ded­i­cated to boxing.”
