Club of the week

-

We caught up with the club’s social media manager Lee Anderson to find out more about the amateur side’s formation and short history so far. Tell us a bit about the history and background of the club. The background of the club is that for a few months we were just playing seven-a-sides between ourselves.

As time went on the games got more competitive and we had a few discussions about why not try and give starting a team a shot.

So we gave it a shot and the progress made in such a short time is remarkable. How many members does your club have? We have 20 players and two coaches so far. Every game home or away we take a decent support so there is always a big number of us. Tell us about the leagues you compete in. We are currently in the Airdrie and Coatbridge AFL League. The league table doesn’t sit pretty for us at the moment, but that’s down to not getting a proper run of games due to our strong runs in the cups. We are proud of our cup performances. Is there a social aspect to the club as well as a sporting side? The team is made up of a big group of best mates . We are all friends off the park which makes it easier for everyone to have a laugh and take that chemistry onto the park.

It also means we don’t have big personality clashes with people. We are a very close group and enjoy being successful together. What principles do the club represent and promote? We like to try and promote that as much as it’s a competitive sport, it’s all about just enjoying the game and being out on the pitch with your mates helps that so much. Are there any particular difficulties the club faces? The one real difficulty at times is affording both games and training as well as equipment and strips.

We don’t currently have a sponsor to help us out , although we have been trying but haven’t had much luck as yet.

We haven’t let that stop us though and have done our best to make it work so far. Hopefully someone will come on board and help support a new local team. How can people get involved with the club? We are a very open club and would welcome any help we could get .

We try our best to promote the club on Twitter and anyone looking to be involved and support us could contact us on there.
