Team and individual medals in the park
Law and District AAC beat the mud to pick up a bumper haul of medals at the Lanarkshire Cross Country Championships.
Held in Drumpellier Park in Coatbridge, the club had more than 60 athletes competing – some for the very first time.
There were winners from the club in most age groups, with many team medals also achieved.
Club secretary Lesley Mcnicol said: “The first race of the day saw our under-11 girls win team bronze, with Alayna Mccann finishing in fifth place, Joscelyn Kennedy 10th and Rachel Stevenson 22nd.
“Jessie Gilchrist stormed home first in the under-13 girls event, 18 seconds ahead of the second placed runner.
“Jessie then enjoyed team gold with team-mates Fiona Currie fifth and Jessica Inglis ninth.
“Our under-13 boys also won team bronze, with Scott Mcadam finishing in seventh, Logan Whitton in 10th and Finn Donnelly 25th.”
The Gilchrist family continued to enjoy success with Jessie’s brother Donald winning the individual silver medal in the under-15 boys race, and also achieving team gold with Oscar Logan fifth and Christopher Barrett sixth.
Lesley added: “Jessica Robson also put in an impressive performance, achieving the Championship title and gold in the under-17 women’s race.
“To complete a hat-trick, Donald and Jessie’s mum Alison won the individual silver medal in the master women’s race.
“The last race of the day saw Darran Muir win the gold medal in the master men’s race.”
Overall Law and District AAC female teams finished in fourth place out of 13 Lanarkshire clubs, with the males teams finishing in third.
