Muaythai teenager Sinclair is picked for UK team
Ben Ramage Young Wishaw Muay Thai prospect David Sinclair finished a fantastic year with a dominant win.
David, 17, saw off the challenge of experienced Edinburgh fighter Joe Wong, taking his total number of wins this year to seven.
And to top off his rise, which has seen him lift two British Championship titles this year, he has been selected for the United Kingdom Muay Tha i Federation team.
As a result he is now training for the Youth Championships in Lithuania in February where he will represent Team GB.
Proud dad Brian said: “2018 has been a fantastic year for David.
“He is now fully focused on the Youth Championships in Lithuania in February and has already started his preparations by increasing his specialist training from four to five days a week at his fight gym - The Griphouse - in Glasgow.
“On his days not at the gym he goes a six-kilometre run and also does strength and conditioning sessions.”
Brian and David are both hoping that the Wishaw youth will one day be able to compete for an Olympic medal, with the sport currently being considered for the 2024 Games in France.
Brian said: “Muay Thai has recently been granted approval by the Olympic Committee and is now scheduled for the World Games in the USA in 2021.
“It is likely to be introduced into the Paris Olympics in 2024, which would be a dream for David and our family.”
The Braidhurst High School pupil was awarded the Lillian Kurilla Cup for Sporting Excellent at the end of school term this year.
Brian added: “Like most amateur sports, taking part in European tournaments is self- funded and David is hoping that he could be sponsored by one or more local companies to help fund his up and coming trips.
