Newmains packed with great support

-

IT’S the most wonderful time of the year – or at least it should be

Up and down the land the gift of Christmas is fuelling most people.

But behind closed doors who of us really knows the stresses some live with during the festivities?

That’s why Newmains United have launched their “Christmas Is About Hampers…not Feeling Hampered” campaign in association with home shirt sponsors Breathing Space, Scotland’s mental health phone service.

It’s designed to highlight the fact the holidays aren’t mistletoe and wine for everyone.

Newmains United midfielder Josh Anderson is used to doing his talking on the park but he’s urged anyone who feels they’re struggling to speak up.

Anderson, 22, said: “If you’re finding it tough and you have someone you are quite close to then talk to them.

“It does not have to be a family member. Speak to them and let them know you’re not coping very well. They will try to help you do what you need to.”

For Anderson Christmas Day will be a time to spend with loved ones. But he admits even he can sometimes feel the pressures of getting ready for December 25.

He said: “I always spend Christmas with the family and have dinner with them. It is really stressful trying to buy presents and things for everybody.

“There isn’t really a lot of time. I have got to consider who I’m buying for and how much money I need to save to pay for it all.

“But I’m never running around on Christmas Eve. I am always really prepared.” .

Breathing Space National Coordinator Tony Mclaren said: “We traditionally see an increase in calls to the phoneline and visits to our website during the winter months.

“Many factors can push some people to breaking point. If anyone is experiencing emotional distress during the festive season and feel they can’t talk to their family or friends then do call us.

“Our advisers are available every day of the year to listen and offer support.”

If you’re finding things difficult and want someone to speak to then call Breathing Space on 0800 83 85 87. They’re waiting to help you.

Meanwhile Newmains are holding a draw to win the hamper worth £75 .

It includes two bottles of wine, chocolates, jams and marmalade, a free hair cut voucher from Top Barber, a voucher for dinner at The Pink Turban and two season tickets.

Tickets to be entered into the draw cost just £1 each and can be bought by messaging the club at www. newmainsunitedfc.com or through their social media channels.

They will also be available for sale on the gate at the home game against Forth Wanderers this Saturday (kick-off 1.45pm). The draw will then be made after the game.
