Heathery roundabout needs to be changed

Readers back petition to make it safer

-

Last week we revealed a petition has been launched to improve the Heathery roundabout in Wishaw.

Concerned resident Jeanie Dunsmore, who is behind the petition, fears someone will be killed at the busy spot before any change is made.

And Wishaw politicians Marion Fellows MP and Cllr Agnes Magowan have also thrown their weight behind the call for something to be done.

We decided to ask Wishaw residents if they shared their concerns about the Heathery roundabout.

Jim Kennedy, from Wishaw, said: “It can be very awkward at times. I think something should be done to improve it.” Raymond Francis, also

from Wishaw, said: “It’s a nightmare sometimes. For pedestrians as well it’s particularly dangerous. The crossings are really not fit for purpose.”

Wishaw man David Bradley said: “It’s always busy there and something really does need to be done to make it safer for everyone.”

David Tosh, from Netherton, believes there’s nothing wrong with the roundabout and that drivers should be more careful.

He said: “I think it’s absolutely fine the way it is.

“A roundabout there is the safest way given the amount of roads leading up to it. Drivers just need to be careful.”
