Dress dream coming true

-

A girl’s First Communion is a big moment for all the family.

But it can also be an expensive time, with dresses often costing up to £150.

Luckily for families in Wishaw, help is at hand to ensure every young girl is dressed for the occasion.

The Craigneuk Lifelong Learning Association are following up their excellent project last year to again gift dresses free of charge to any family in the community who cannot afford a brand new dress.

And project development officer Louise Healy is certain the scheme will be a success once again.

“Our aim is make sure that every kid feels special on this day,” Louise said.

“We started last year and managed to help quite a few families.

“Some people simply can’t afford a new dress and this helps take away any worry about not being able to get a dress.”

Louise is hoping the whole community can get behind the project, with several dresses already on the shelves at the group’s centre on Glasgow Road in Craigneuk.

She said: “We’ve had lots of donations from shops and residents so far.

“People have brought some in already but we’re still hoping to get a few more in to make sure we have enough to go around.

“I know there’s a sentimental attachment to the dresses, but by donating them they can help someone else have a special day too.”

Anyone looking to get a dress can contact Louise at the centre on 01698 373401.

Their enquiry will be handled with the utmost discretion and privacy.
