Mum put her grief aside and helped us

aside and just went into “full Gran mode”.

“She has been such an inspiration to me.

“My mum has never had it easy but she always puts me and my brother first.”

The tragic death of Paddy at the age of 62 was just after Shirley had lost her own dad Bert in November last year at the age of 90.

Laura, who described her mum as “her rock”, is indebted to her to helping her through the grieving process.

She added: “My grandad went through a horrible time last year resulting in him spending 16 weeks in Wishaw General at the age of 90.

“Myself, mum and my auntie Karen travelled in most days to see him.

“He got transfered out of hospital and straight to Rosehall care home where my mum works.

“We thought it would be ideal for him but he sadly passed away four weeks later.

“After going through a funeral and then trying to get back to some sort of reality during Christmas and New Year, we then had everything that happened with my dad so it’s been tough for all of us.

“Mum has really kept us all going.”

To thank her mum for what she has done for her, Laura nominated her for our weekly Say it with Flowers competition.

And she was on hand to present her with the bouquet thanks to our friends at Pixie’s Petals in Newmains.
